I'm a Cutter: A Cutting and Linking Tutorial
Before joining LiveJounal I was already profiecient with basic HTML tags, generally. But it took me a long time to figure out the lj-cut tag.

Reason being, when you click either "preview" or "show my post" it takes you past the cut! So it appears that the cut didn't work when in fact it did. Such nonesense!

Cutting

Using the lj-cut is as simple as they tell you in the official faq. Simply use the code below (you can copy and paste it). Replace ReadMore with what you want the cut to say (text of the link). Replace BehindTheCut with all the text you want behind the cut. It's that simple. Here's the code:

Linking

In case you don't know how to link, I'll tell ya that too. Use the code below. Replace URL with your actual url (beginning with http://) and replace LINKTEXT with what you want your finished link to say.

It's all better now, as you can see.

AWESOME tutorial. Simple and easy to understand. I have a question, though. I was just looking at your page here, and why are your ads invisible? Did you do that or is it a glitch?

I have set my adds to run vertical. You should see them on the left. If they're not there, I don't know what to tell you.

To make your adds run vertical, click the "customize" link that appears in your advertizement section of your journal.

Or this might get you there too.

Oh, I thought maybe you're able to screw with it. It's just yours have no text in them. I've already fiddled with my ad alignment, see?

*giggles*

Just popped by to say thank you for these posts. I have finally gotten the courage to post to my LJ with more that a photo of my poor deceased cat and when experimenting with lj-cuts, could not for the life of me work out what I was doing wrong when I previewed my post.
For some reason, a year ago I saw your post and today I remembered it - here I am reading those beautiful words of wisdom: ... so it appears the cut didn't work when in fact it did.
You have saved a old lady a lot of hair-pullin' today lovely.
Thanks again.
